Rome. 1611. A time of rebellion and change in the art world. At the center, a young Artemisia Gentileschi creates masterpieces from the tales of heroines, faces her own story of violence and injustice in a patriarchal world, and challenges the establishment to become a woman known as one of the greatest painters of all time.
A Woman Known is a one-night preview of this solo play and will be accompanied by an exhibition and celebration of local women artists. A portion of proceeds will benefit local rape crisis centers.
